CAS is another integral component of the IB Diploma Programme. The goal of CAS is for students to gain meaningful life experiences outside of the academic arena by participating in creative, active, and service oriented activities. Students are required to conduct a minimum of 150 hours of CAS over the two years in the program. The activities chosen by students should be purposeful as well as a personal challenge.
The three strands of CAS can be defined as follows:
CAS activities should be balanced within the three strands. While an activity that fits one of the descriptions above does count as a CAS activity, the best CAS activities combine all elements of CAS. Students must record their CAS activities using the online ManageBac system and meet with the CAS Coordinator periodically. They are also required to complete a CAS group project that focuses on an issue of global importance.

- Creativity: arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking
- Activity: physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle
- Service: unpaid and voluntary; an exchange that has learning benefits for the student
